Dynamite celebrates Vampirella's 46th Anniversary

Vampirella Anniversary Dynamite

It is sort of strange for a comic series to celebrate it’s 46th anniversary, but that seems to be exactly what Dynamite did here for Vampirella #1969. They got an all star list of writers and artists to put together some Vampirella stories covering a wide span of her history.  I am a pretty new arrival to Vampirella. She first came to my attention with Nancy Collins terrific run.  I have read some of Dynamite’s terrific Vampirella Archives which collect her older series, so I did have some background when I started this book.

To Jesse Eisenberg: Why I write

Critics are in an uproar over Jesse Eisenberg’s scathing commentary on critics in the New Yorker.  In the column, he pretends to be an Internet reviewer who sums up his thoughts on a film he reviewed with:

In sum, these are the main problems with “Paintings of Cole”: it was inconveniently shown on the Upper West Side, written by a guy I envy, screened by a cute intern whose name was too confusing to remember, based on an idea that I poorly executed in grad school, and praised by the Times, which rejected me.

All-New Marvel continues with our first mutant book, Extraordinary X-Men

I have been an on-and-off fan of X-Men since real early in my comic reading. X-FORCE was basically my favorite comic as a kid, and I really enjoyed Lobdell and Nicieza’s work on the main X-MEN books. Over the years, there have been many X-Men-related titles and runs I have loved (Exiles and Peter David’s X-Factor come to mind), but for the last few years, X-Men has been kind of a mess. This all started with House of M. Marvel decided that they were a little too reliant on X-Men books, and declared NO MORE MUTANTS. It seemed like Marvel has started to slowly roll back on that decision. We had started to see new mutants, and a new status quo was established. I didn’t always love the war between Cyclops and Wolverine’s factions, but I still thought it was far more interesting than  X-Men had been for a long time.
