Feb 2019 Bombshell Batgirlio

What is your interest in cosplay?

I enjoy cosplay because it gives you a chance to explore your creativity as well as literally walk in the shoes of a character you admire!

How did you get into cosplay, and what was your first cosplay experience?

I guess you could say I never grew out of dressing up! I first began cosplaying when I was in high school. I remember always admiring other cosplayers’ photos on Instagram. Finally, one day my friends and I decided to give it a try. We started making our costumes together and planned to go our first comic con, Wizard World-San Antonio. We all received positive feedback on our costumes and really enjoyed the experience.

How has your cosplay evolved since you began?

The first costume I put together consisted of dish washing gloves and a small leather mask. Later down the road I began purchasing pieces from a special artist, Reevzfx. His talent captured the accuracy I was striving for. My cosplays are still evolving today as I am learning to make new things.

What is your "secret identity" outside of cosplaying?

Outside of cosplay I am a very busy nursing student. I decided to take my passion for helping others and hopefully make it into a career someday!

What kind of social or charity activities do you get involved in with your cosplay?

My social activities include reading comic books, watching movies, and hiking. My friends and I also still attend comic cons for fun. We are hoping to soon involve our cosplays into charity events and use them to make a difference.

Do you make as much of your own costume as possible or rely on purchased materials -- and is that important overall to cosplaying?

Currently, most of my costume pieces are purchased. However, I’m starting to learn how to construct some things on my own. Overall, I don’t think it’s important whether you buy or construct your own pieces as long as you are doing what you love.

What's your favorite cosplay, your "go to" look that you just love to put on and act out?

I think my favorite cosplay will always be Batgirl. I admire her confidence and driving passion to get things done. She has always been my favorite superhero.
