Bombshell November 2019 Lady Ashe XII

Every month the staff at Critical Blast combs the cosplay community for up and coming cosplayers who deserve to have a broader audience for their work, taking into account not only costuming skills and spirit, but also how they use that ability in service to others. Through this, we've not only met some talented cosplayers, but also some fine human beings.

Just because Halloween has become a pile of empty chocolate bar wrappers on the kitchen table doesn't mean that dress-up time is over. As we move into a season of gratitude for all good things, we are thankful for all the Bombshells we have encountered this year, and none less than this month's versatile costumer  Ladies and gentlement, it is our distinct privilege to now present to you our...

Bombshell Supergirl (DC COMICS)

What is your interest in cosplay?

I love being able to spend obsessive amounts of time putting details into my costumes and having more opportunities to wear them - not just on Halloween!

How did you get into cosplay, and what was your first cosplay experience?

I've been making and sewing my Halloween costumes since I was a kid. I always liked to take that extra step that really makes it "cosplay." I remember watching a clip from the Dragon Con Parade on TV back in high school, seeing Klingons walking around, and thinking, "That's where I need to be!" That was probably my introduction to cons and that level of costuming. Then I attended my first con in 2015.

How has your cosplay evolved since you began?

My cosplay has evolved slowly, but I see myself improving with each new project, and getting more adventurous with materials. I enjoy the unique challenges that each new cosplay presents.

Princess Ariel (WALT DISNEY'S THE LITTLE MERMAID)

What is your "secret identity" outside of cosplaying?

By day, I work in the veterinary field.

What kind of social or charity activities do you get involved in with your cosplay?

I love attending local charity events in cosplay! I do that as much as possible, because it brings so much magic and joy to children or adults who are in need. I volunteer on my own, and for Costumers With a Cause. I'll also dress up for fun when attending the Orlando theme parks, since I'm an annual passholder. I think it makes each visit so unique and special!

Lara Croft (EIDOS' TOMB RAIDER: ANGEL OF DARKNESS)

Do you make as much of your own costume as possible or rely on purchased materials -- and is that important overall to cosplaying?

My personal approach is to make my cosplays as cheaply, and as authentic, as possible. That usually means making most items myself, or altering things that I buy. The less each cosplay costs you, the more you can make! Cosplay is meant to be fun, so any approach you take should be entirely individual. Don't let someone else tell you how you should pursue a hobby or have fun. Make it your own.

What's your favorite cosplay, your "go to" look that you just love to put on and act out?

My favorite cosplays to wear are usually the comfy ones, or characters I relate to more. I'll throw on Dr. Sattler or Sabrina any day! For charity events, I love to bring Spider-Gwen and Ariel to life.
