Welcome back to Critical Blast’s weekly look at what new comics you should check out each week. Just a warning, I make these picks pretty much a week BEFORE I actually get to read any of these comics, so if something is a stinker, I take no blame on that. Let's get to it!
- NANCY DREW AND THE HARDY BOYS: THE BIG LIE #2 - The first issue of this series was a nice surprise. Wasn't quite sure what to expect of a noir modernization of The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, but it worked really well. Really looking forward to seeing where this series goes from here.
- CAPTAIN AMERICA: SAM WILSON #21 - While I appreciate comics dealing with real social issues, I think CAPTAIN AMERICA can be a little heavy handed at times. I grew up a New Warriors fan, so Rage's fate bothered me to no end. Sent to jail for a crime he did not commit, left in general population and beaten until brain dead. It makes a sad amount of sense with real life happenings, but not quite what I want to read in a superhero comic book.
- X-MEN BLUE #1 and WEAPON X #1 - Marvel continues to roll out their X-Men relaunch. X-MEN GOLD's debut issue was marred by an artist gone rogue, but I don't think that will have much of an impact on the long term success or failure of ResurrXion.
- IMMORTAL BROTHERS: THE TALE OF THE GREEN KNIGHT #1 - I love adventures of Gilead, Aram, and Ivar teamed up together, so I have been looking forward to this one for awhile now. Hopefully we will get more stories featuring them in the near future.
- CHARMED #2 and VAMPIRELLA #2 - Probably unfair to lump these two books together, but they are both by Dynamite, both are relaunches of series I really enjoyed...and both have been off to kind of shaky starts. I am hoping that both of these series find their footing quickly.
