Disney has started a new series of shorts called "FORCES OF DESTINY" that are supposed to give a wider focus on the Star Wars universe. The series debuted yesterday with SANDS OF JAKKU, featuring Rey and BB-8 shortly after she finds him wandering in the desert. You can watch the debut episode below.
Quick review: I enjoyed this episode quite a bit. It was cool to see a little "lost tale" of THE FORCE AWAKENS. It also helped show how Rey and BB-8 bonded a bit. And the ending shows up quite a bit about Rey's character. Sure that monster may have tried to eat her and BB-8, but she gets how tough living on Jakku is, so she's hold no grudges here. I also loved that they got Daisy Ripley to do the voice work here. That is a real nice touch that you don't get too often with STAR WARS tie-ins. The animation was okay. It wasn't all that exciting, but it wasn't ugly either.
I will definitely be watching these episodes as they come in the future I had heard they were supposed to post one a day, but I haven't seen a new one for today yet). Future episodes will feature characters like Ahsoka, Padme, Maz, Hera, Sabine, and Jyn, so its clear they are showing up glimpses from all over the STAR WARS timeline.
