Welcome back to Critical Blast’s weekly look at what new comics you should check out each week. Just a warning, I make these picks pretty much a week BEFORE I actually get to read any of these comics, so if something is a stinker, I take no blame on that. Let's get to it!
Comics shipping this week
- BLOODSHOT SALVATION #1 – I got to read this as a review copy a while back, and it is awesome. The story is intense and the art is gorgeous. I honestly don’t think any comic can come out this week that will top BLOODSHOT SALVATION.
- DARK ARK #1 – Another really odd book from Aftershock, this time from Cullen Bunn. The wickedness of mankind has moved the Creator to destroy the world by way of the flood. Noah has been tasked with building an ark to save his family and the animals of the world. But this is not Noah's story. For darker powers have commanded the sorcerer Shrae to build his own ark and save the unnatural creatures of the world — such as the vampires, the dragons, the naga, and the manticore. But what will happen on a vessel crawling with monsters, where insidious intrigue and horrific violence are the rule of law? I am really curious about this one. As I say every month, Aftershock is putting out some really cool new comics all the time.
- WORLD OF ANIMOSITY #1 – Speaking of Aftershock, I am not sure why we need so many different series set in the ANIMOSITY universe. It’s a great read, but it gets confusing with all the different titles under the umbrella. Just a personal gripe I guess.
- LIBRARIANS #1 – LIBRARIANS is really an ideal TV series to adapt as a comic book. It’s a really deep world, and you have plenty of room for standalone adventures that don’t have to tie directly into the season by season plots that the show usually does.
- WONDER WOMAN/CONAN #1– I love crossovers, and this is set up to be a lot of fun. In a very crowded week of new releases, this one in particular stands out to me. By Crom!
- BATMAN THE RED DEATH #1 – I know comic fans are tripping over each other to praise DARK NIGHTS METAL, but I can’t get past the ridiculousness of Batmanium. And now we are facing down a variety of evil Batman from across the dark multiverse, starting with Flash Batman. I am trying to keep an open mind here, but this is pretty much everything that makes it hard to tell people “Yeah, I am an adult comic fan!”
- VENOMVERSE #3 – I actually am surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed VENOMVERSE. It’s just a real fun hop through the multiverse, through Venom’s eyes. I love the characters and really want to know more about them. I hope we get a WEB WARRIORS like book after VENOMVERSE ends. Issue 2 ended with Deadpool turning himself over to The Poiison…I hope he has a plan there, but it is Deadpool…
