Joker Critical Blast Best of 2019 Film Award

In the category of Best Film of 2019, we had, perhaps, the most competition of any other category in terms of the number of nominations each vying for the vote of our readers. But there were only three films that cracked the barrier into double-digit percentages of the prize pie.

Coming in for the third place position was the Quentin Tarantino blockbuster with Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD, and its fictionalized account of actors who fell into the orbit of Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate, just before the Manson family murders.

But it was the second and first place positions where things got very, very contentious. On the one hand, we have a team of the world's mightiest heroes, bending the rules of time and space to their whim to raise the dead. On the other, a mentally broken man in clown makeup in an origin story that bears not even the slightest resemblance to the comic book origins fans had been familiar with for over seventy years.

Both films received tons of attention from our readers, right up through the last day of voting. And although both films easily deserve the top spot as Best Film of 2019, AVENGERS: ENDGAME fell by a fraction of a percent to the Clown Prince of Crime, JOKER -- a feat you could probably see coming if you saw our announcement earlier this week that Joaquin Phoenix had won our Best Film Actor of 2019.

Hearty congratulations to Director Todd Phillips and the entire cast and crew of what was certainly the most memorable film of the year!
