It's hard to explain where fanaticism develops, but for anybody who has experienced it, they can commiserate on how it feels. They understand the planting of this seed and how it grows, burns, and consumes, driving people to follow something. When most people think of extremely passionate people, they automatically think of “nerds” or “geeks”. But, frankly speaking, everybody experiences fanaticism, whether it's being a football fan and buying a player's jersey or going to the shoe store three times a week for just “one more pair” of boots.
It's with this in mind, that we, as people, take to Kickstarter to turn these passions and ideas into reality. We try to find like-minded folk, who are willing to take this journey into various fandoms with us. Currently, Justin Zagri has a Kickstarter for a Harry Potter fan film entitled “Snape and the Marauders”. The 'starter runs until December 10th, 2014. If you haven't seen his first film, “The Greater Good,” and you are a Harry Potter fan, what are you waiting for?!? His first foray into the Potter fan film world is ultimately satisfying and intriguing. His second idea seems to be just as fascinating.
This second film, yet to be made, will focus on a confrontation between Snape and the infamous Marauders directly after graduating from Hogwarts. It's a huge part of the wizarding world mythos that is fairly uncharted by JK Rowling, but fans have been prodding around the edges of it for years. Honestly, if you are a Potter purist, wait until you see this casting! Personally, I think these Marauders are casted better then the fleeting glimpse the audience gets of them in Order of the Phoenix. Each actor embodies exactly what their character should... intelligence, pride, arrogance, and obsequiousness. Snape, played by Mick Ignis, looks to have an essentially constant sneer that would make Alan Rickman proud. At this point, from the Kickstarter video, I'm not sure where Lily is going to fit in, but I'm positive she will be a driving force as she always is.
The filmmaker, Justin Zagri, seems to have a good head on his shoulders when it comes to creating movies and the world of Harry Potter. His past work speaks for itself. The Kickstarter has made its first goal, which is basically the bare bones of the film. But I, as many others, want to see the movie created to its full extent. We want awesome visual effects, amazing music, and top notch costumes! Reaching the second extended goal of $30K will provide the money for all post-production to be paid in full. And while we are pushing, the third extended goal of $40K will get us a second film based on JK Rowling's story about James and Sirius being chased by the police. That alone should be incentive enough for everybody to donate!
Speaking about incentives, there are some great ones. Here's the part of the article where I will sound like I belong on PBS and fundraising for “Viewers like You!” First, for the low, low cost of $25, you'll be added to the credits and the Marauder's Map (to prove you are an ultimate Potterhead), a HD downloadable version of the finished film and a personalized letter inviting you to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. No, really, YOUR OWN letter to Hogwarts. If you grew up on Potter, like me, you've been waiting for that letter for at least a decade and a half! $50 will get you all of that, a DVD copy of “Severus Snape and the Marauders” and “The Greater Good” and digital versions of both soundtracks. An extra $10, and a brand new added perk, you get all that and a signed poster. $125 will also get you a limited edition shirt that is ONLY available for this production and will make every other Potterite jealous! I love this shirt personally, you have to see it to truly appreciate it. Jealous Worthy T-Shirt. Click for more perks and details on “Severus Snape and the Marauders."
Support your fellow fanatics. Remember, this is the same idea we have always learned in school, if everybody chips in, we can accomplish big things. If you can't donate, then please share the Kickstarter! You never know who else may be passionate enough to make these dreams reality. The Kickstarter runs until Wednesday, December 10th, but don't wait until the last minute to donate! Keep the momentum going and click Donate today!
