Superman Wonder Woman DC Comics Relationship Tested Critical Blast

And that's a good thing!

On the surface it would appear that Superman and Wonder Woman are going through a rough patch, but that doesn't mean that the writing is on the wall for DC's power couple. On the contrary, it simply means that they are learning more about one another. With each argument they endure, their relationship only grows stronger as they discover how best to deal with the other's needs.

Sure they're fictional characters, but when people start freaking out over an isolated incident or a disagreement, sometimes it's good to put things into perspective. Over the course of their young relationship we've seen them have differing opinions and philosophies. This happens in every relationship.

People shouldn't be climbing out on the ledge because they saw a panel of Superman telling Wonder Woman that he doesn't love her anymore.

Over the course of the last few months (ignoring the company wide event: Convergence), Superman has slowly been losing his powers. He was also denied access to the Fortress of Solitude, which eventually stripped him of his suit; claiming it was a stolen artifact. Hitting a low point in his life, he desperately attempts to gain his powers back by flying directly into the sun.

Wonder Woman refuses to let him continue with this self-destructive behavior. She loves him. And when two people love one another, they are willing to fight for each other. No matter how bad things seem.

Series writer Peter Tomasi plans to put a little strain on their relationship. When the sneak preview was released, fans of the relationship were worried and opponents were delighted. Tomasi wants the power couple to be tested; to see if their love is strong and true. He took to twitter to explain this:

@superwomanlois It's called storytelling my dear friends and foes. No conflict no drama. Love is a roller coaster. The ride has begun.

Even inker Jaime Mendoza posted on his Facebook account that people need to just relax:

Oh social media. Everyone is eye balls deep and loud about what they feel like makes them important. Just live it people. Deep breaths and happy thoughts. Life doesn't have to be a rage fest.

The perfect relationship doesn't exist, although some people feel that it does. In fiction, however, there isn't a single couple that hasn't had to suffer through ups and downs:

Ross and Rachel (Friends)
Luke and Laura (General Hospital)
Ron and Hermione (Harry Potter)

The TRUTH storyline has Superman struggling with the feeling of powerlessness. He needs reassurance as he's lost everything. As the two of them continue to get closer, he suddenly loses so much of himself. There's no reason to think that he wouldn't consider he may end up losing her as well. Rather than watch it play out, it's typical to push the ones closest to you away.

According to an article written for the Huffington Post, back in August of 2013, about relationship behaviors:

"Sometimes when things are getting very serious men, in particular, may pull away..." explains Relationship Coach Stef Safran.

However, just because one person in the relationship needs a breather, it doesn't mean your relationship is in desperate need of an SOS. It just means you're human!

It's often stated that the best stories about Superman are the ones that explore his human side and therefore are the most compelling. We're in the very early stages of a story about two very powerful fictional beings who fell in love with each other. They'll have ups and downs and go through good times and bad. It's how they come out on the other side that shows the strength of their bond.

Simply having problems isn't enough to break them up, but it will make for a good story. We'll get to see their the relationship grow over time as it's built upon a solid foundation. The framework is now being laid and soon their hearts will be furnished with love. For those of you who are looking forward to the end of the power couple, you'll just have to be patient. Many of us have waited 30+ years for this.

You can wait a little longer.
