Welcome back to Critical Blast’s weekly look at what new comics you should check out each week. Just a warning, I make these picks pretty much a week BEFORE I actually get to read any of these comics, so if something is a stinker, I take no blame on that. Let's get to it!
Wrath Of The Eternal Warrior #1 – I was fortunate to be able to read this comic a few weeks ago. Actually, I read it before I read the end of Book of Death, which was a bit of a mistake. This one is not at all what I expected from an Eternal Warrior comic. Gilad has found his way to the afterlife, and now he needs to decide whether or not he should come back. It’s a very cool comic and well worth reading.
Vampirella #1969 – Kind of strange to have a “46th” anniversary issue. I can’t help but wonder if this was supposed to come out last year and just got delayed. But, thanks to Nancy Collins’ excellent run, I’ve become real interesting in Vampirella. Definitely excited about this comic. The only part that bums me out is this is Nancy Collins’ last Vampirella story.
Huck #1 – Mark Millar has had a series of awesome minis for Image over the last few years, including Chrononauts, MPH, and Starlight. Huck’s main character is described as a combination of Superman and Archie Andrews. Should be entertaining if nothing else.
Invincible #125 – Reboot has been a hell of a story so far. Invincible was sent back in time with all the knowledge he has now. He’s already been changing the time line to try and fix some of the mistakes he made in the past. What impact will this have on the series? We don’t know yet, but I can’t imagine this is going to lead to a happy ending. Kirkman is an evil bastard…
Titans Hunt #2 – Not at all what I expected, but I really enjoyed the mystery here. They even teased it a bit in last week’s Red Hood and Arsenal, so it looks like there is going to be a major impact on the DC universe from this story.
Mighty Thor, Spider-Woman, Ms Marvel – Three of my favorite Marvel books all come back on the same day. I do sort of feel bad lumping them all together like this, but all three are terrific comics with a female character headliner. PROGRESS!
Star Wars – Vader Down #1 – One thing I’ve really enjoyed about Marvel’s Star Wars books is that there are a lot of little references that tie the books together. A major event in one book will get a small mention elsewhere to help keep the time line straight. This is the first real crossover between Marvel’s Star Wars books.
Green Lantern The Lost Army #6 – I am actually pretty annoyed that this series is coming to an end so abruptly. It’s been one of my favorites since it launched. There will be a mini-series with a different creative team to tie up some of the hanging threads, but I still think it’s a huge mistake to end The Lost Army. Definitely one of DC’s most intriguing books.
Secret Wars Too #1 – Hey Marvel…instead of putting out dumb books like this, how about we actually get the rest of Secret Wars out in a timely fashion? I don’t think I am asking for too much.
