According to comicbook.com Disney announced a 'sequel' for the 2014 hit movie: BIG HERO 6, in the form of a TV series on Disney XD.
While the animation style hasn't been announced yet, given Disney's work on STAR WARS REBELS, it's reasonable to think that BIG HERO 6 will have a similar look. That being said, they could go with more traditional animation as Disney has secured KIM POSSIBLE showrunners Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley to executive produce. The two will will be teaming up with Nick Filippi, who will also serve as executive producer and supervising director.
From Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide
"Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters," Marsh said in a statement provided to ComicBook.com. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series – full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob – and Baymax – can deliver."
BIG HERO 6 was a movie that hit the sweet spot between action/comedy and a story about bonds of family and friendship. The relationship that developed between Hiro and his brother's creation, Baymax, was such a powerful experience that took viewers on a rollercoaster of emotions.
Turning the hit movie into a series for Disney XD is an excellent way to expand on such an imaginative world, as they pick up right where the movie left off. San Fransokyo is a futuristic setting that will provide endless opportunities for the characters to continue being hero's while strengthening their bond week in and week out.
No casting announcements have been made but I suspect that they'll make a real attempt at returning the original voice cast for the main characters.
