Show creator Seth MacFarlane took to twitter to announced that THE ORVILLE has been renewed for a second season on FOX.
A show that combines amazing special effects, stunning Sci-Fi, laugh out loud comedy, and deep moral questions, THE ORVILLE is a clever work-'space' comedy.
The cast of characters are lovable losers who are just trying to make the best of their ongoing mission. All while citing real world issues in the midst of trouble. One such moment, when the Orville is under attack, Lt. Malloy expresses his frustration that there's no way they're getting out at 5'oclock.
Centering around MacFarlane's character, Ed Mercer, and his ex-wife Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) who command the Orville, each supporting cast member contributes significantly. The bridge of the Orville is like an office where employees gather on a daily basis and interact in a way that's reminiscint of NBC's hit show. While there's no 'talking head' interviews, the witty banter among the crew is cleverly written.
Through all the comedy, THE ORVILLE continues to find ways to make us feel things. And to think about where our society is today. A recent episode introduced a society where the rule of law is voted on by the people. Everyone walks around with a badge that you can give 'up' or 'down' votes based on the way a person behaves or treats you. A coffee shop refused to serve someone because they had over 500,000 'down' votes. Clearly they don't want people with a reputation for doing bad things in their shop.
Known for the raunchy FAMILY GUY and the highly political AMERICAN DAD, Seth MacFarlane has finally found the sweet spot with THE ORVILLE. The surprise hit of the Fall season, it should not be overlooked.
Congratulations to Seth MacFarlane for creating a better version of Star Trek, and for having THE ORVILLE picked up for a second season.
