Welcome back to Critical Blast’s weekly look at what new comics you should check out each week. Just a warning, I make these picks pretty much a week BEFORE I actually get to read any of these comics, so if something is a stinker, I take no blame on that. Let's get to it!
We have reached the end of the year! But we still got one more week of comic shopping until 2017! Keeping it short because I am basically on Christmas break, but I still wanted to give a few quick picks this week.
GI JOE #1 – I actually avoided Revolution. To me, there are just so many times you can keep rebooting franchises. I am a huge fan of GI Joe comics, but all the reboots just make me stick to GI JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO which continues from the original Marvel series (still written by Larry Hama). That said, I will give this first issue a shot, but if it’s anything like the last few GI Joe reboots, I can’t see myself sticking around as a reader.
SUPERGIRL BEING SUPER #1 – I tend to get annoyed when a character with an ongoing series gets minis while there are a lot of great characters that sit on the shelves for years. But this seems like a very different SUPERGIRL story, so I am actually curious about this one.
HULK #1 – Been a fan of She-Hulk since the John Bryne days. This seems to be a very different take on Jen. And I wonder if some readers will get turned off if they come here expecting Banner. But Marvel has a pretty good track record with female leads recently, so I will pick it up to see what it’s all about.
CIVIL WAR II #8 – FINALLY OVER!! Marvel really needs to do a better job with keeping their crossovers on schedule. Wasn’t much substance in Civil War II. Couple of big deaths, but I don’t expect them to stick. And that was about it. Everything seems back status quo afterwards.
