Very interesting news posted by Gamespot this morning:

Today during a special event in San Francisco, Telltale Games and Marvel Games announced a partnership for a new game due out in 2017.

The event is ongoing; we'll have more details on the new game as they become available.

Telltale has also published a blog post about this announcement, though it doesn't offer much in the way of specifics.

"Announced this evening in San Francisco, we're excited to reveal an all-new partnership with the incredible team at Marvel Entertainment. We'll be teaming up on the development of an upcoming Telltale game series project set to premiere in 2017!"

Commentary: This is really exciting and unexpected news.  Telltale has been a major player in the game industry the last few years.  They first came to my attention when they brought back Sam & Max and Monkey Island, two of my all time favorite franchises.  Tales of Monkey Island and the three seasons of Sam & Max they produced were all great games, though I will admit some of the puzzles were so abstract I needed lots of internet help to get back them.  I also have played their Poker Night games to death.

But for most people, Telltale really hit the big time when they released The Walking Dead, which was basically on everyone's game of the year list in 2012.

And now Telltale will be bringing their magic to the Marvel universe.  I am real curious what type of game it will be.  I was a huge Sierra and Lucasarts adventure game fan back in the day.  I even liked Madness in Murderland, which was basically an X-Men point-and-click/action hybrid back in 1989.  I can definitely think of several Marvel properties I would love to see in that type of game.  Runaways would be ripe for it!  They already had a keypad puzzle in volume 1 (CHEAP PLUG FOR THIS WEEK'S OPEN MIKE NIGHT).

But, it seems to me that if it were a "simple" adventure type game, then it would be out a lot sooner than 2017.  Maybe it's some kind of MMO?  A little outside of Telltale's typical wheelhouse, but I've been surprised Marvel hasn't made any serious attempts at a MMO.

As soon as they announce more about this story, I'll pass it on to the readers.
