Welcome back to Critical Blast’s weekly look at what new comics you should check out each week.   Just a warning, I make these picks pretty much a week BEFORE I actually get to read any of these comics, so if something is a stinker, I take no blame on that.  Let's get to it!

Comics shipping this week

  • STAR TREK: BOLDLY GO #1 – Glad to see Star Trek back on the shelves so quickly. Still annoyed they ended the long running ongoing series to replace it with a series of mini-series, but as long as I get to read new adventures with the “new” Star Trek crew, I can’t complain too much.
  • KISS #1 – Has any license gotten as many chances as KISS to win an audience over in comic book form? I am a huge fan of the band, and I buy the comics out of curiosity. For the most part, they have been entertaining, so I never regret buying them. Now it’s Dynamite’s turn to try to build some mythology to the rock icons.
  • SPELL ON WHEELS #1 – Three witches robbed of their mystical items and go on a road trip to get them back. Charmed meets Thelma and Louise? Dark Horse sounds like it has another winner on it’s hands here.
  • INFAMOUS IRON MAN #1 – Another “post” Civil War II series launching before Civil War is even close to ending. As far as I can tell, this book stars Victor Von Doom, but Marvel hasn’t said too much about it yet. And of course, we still have no idea what Stark’s status is post Civil War II.

  • CAVE CARSON HAS A CYBERNETIC EYE #1 – Maybe my favorite title for a comic ever. No idea what this one is about, but checking it out because of the title and my interest in supporting DC’s Young Animal line.
  • DEATH OF X #2 – First issue of this was a real train wreck (THEY KILLED MADROX). I have been arguing against the idea that Marvel is anti-X-Men for a long time, but when they put out crap like this, it becomes hard to keep defending them…
  • BLACK HOOD SEASON 2 #1 – From Archie’s Dark Circle line, we are getting a second season of Black Hood. Black Hood was a very grim, but well written series, and I’m glad we’re getting more. A murdered tries to draw the Black Hood out of retirement, and I imagine we’ll get some disturbing scenes along the way here.
  • TORCHWOOD #2 / POWERS #7 – ABOUT TIME. I hate, hate, hate late comics.
